INCREASING IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD

INTRODUCTION

It should be the desire of every believer to increase and grow in the knowledge of God as the pursuit of this brings into our lives favors likeness and right standing with God and this does not happen by chance or just talking about it but by intentional decision taking necessary steps using the combination of tools of INTELLECTUAL EXPERENTIAL AND SPIRITUAL which will greatly assists us in our quest for this important spiritual growth

INTELECTUAL   Rom 15:4 1Pt 2:2 2Tim 2:15 Jn 5:39

We must engage our mind because that’s where we process information that help us to understand who God is but sometimes connecting our mind does not seems spiritual but that’s where the process begins Matt 22:37.However increasing in this knowledge is beyond  intellectual  or mental pursuit else we will end up  with academic of who God is and not move into relationship with God like Pharisee that quote scripture and knew the law but missed who Jesus was despite being in the scripture they quote but there knowledge was merely intellectual

EXPERENTIAL Judges 6:22 Ex 10:2

Increasing in the knowledge of God is beyond learning facts and information but require we have a personal experience of who he is as this takes facts you’ve learned and make it come alive moving from the place of being just words and become life to us

SPIRITUAL

This is where true fellowship and communion with God happens John 4:23-24 This involve our mind as we engage with God in true fellowship and communion and our spirit connecting with his spirit. John 8:47

 It is the combination of these three tools that set the stage for our pursuit noting that we can not increase in our quest leaving our mind out of the process neither can we be in awe of who he is until we experience his presence and spiritual fellowship and communion all form the foundation of increasing in his knowledge through the following five ways

FIVE WAYS APPROACH

You must spend time in the word: It is impossible to increase in his knowledge if we neglect his word as tool of intellectual deploy studying his carefully crafted word which is fundamental to our increasing in his knowledge in essence knowing God and reading his word are inseparable

You must spend time in worship :  As earlier mentioned increasing in his knowledge begin as intellectual exercise but cannot remain at that because one of the beauty of studying scripture is that it position us to get revelation of the truth of who God is as it leaps off the pages and becomes life which leads to worship and connecting our spirit with God at this point our sense of his awe and wonder grows John 4:24 Worship is the catalyst that allows us to enter into his presence and experience all that comes with it his joy peace and majesty

You must spend time in prayer: One of the product of worship is that it increases our faith. Prayer is the place where communion happens and it is the place we experience some of his character filled with joy embraced by his love overwhelmed by his peace and awed by his presence. Prayer is critical to increase in his knowledge Col 4:2-3 Jer 33:3

You must spend time learning from others: One of the beautiful thing about our journey of faith is that we don’t walk this journey alone, there are several testimonies of our co-walker and forebearer which will help us learn more of God as their life stories reveals treasure troves of perspectives about who God is and how he works in people lives

You must depend on the Holy Spirit : As great as the steps mentioned earler are, the Hloy Spirit is the glue that makes all works John 14:16. Without the Holy Spirit there is no desire to study the word no understanding of who God is no revelation and no depth in prayer. He is critical and most important means in increasing his knowledge. Lord Jesus said Hply Spirit will lead us into all truth and we should learn to lean on him and allow him teach us everything we need to know on who God is

CONCLUSION
increasing in the knowledge of God is not a one-time event but a life long life pursuit and the wonderful thing is that we can learn and lean on him as we desire. God is waiting to sit with us and show us great and wonderful things beyond anything we could ever imagine but we must make time for him which will be a worthwhile pursuit.
