A Sure Pathway To Living An Overcoming Christian Life.
The Expected Christian Life and Description
Bible Text: PROVERB 28:21 | PSALM 14:13

INTRODUCTION

Our tongue is the most powerful part of our physical body. What the trigger is to a gun is what our tongue is to our lives. All through the scriptures the Bible makes it very clear that we must be careful how we use our tongue. Why? How you use your tongue or how others use their tongue against you will either make or break you l. Today, we shall be looking at the strategic nature of our tongue and how we can overcome problems associated with the wrong use of our tongue and develop a spirit controlled tongue.

Let us look at what the Bible has to say about the tongue

1. Your tongue devises destruction like a sharp razor working deceitfully. psalm 52:2.

2. Keep your tongue from evil and your lip from speaking deceit Psalm 34: 13.

3. The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom and his tongue talks of justice Psalm 37:30.

4. Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from trouble. Pro 21:23.

         WAYS WE USE OUR TONGUE

* Your tongue can be used in two ways, for life or death. You can use it to save or you can use it to condemn. You need to realise however if God did not speak, darkness would have remained.

* THE USE OF YOUR TONGUE NEGATIVELY/DEATH

* Lying against people out of envy or bitterness just to bring them down whether they have offended you or not

* Speaking negatively about yourselves in difficult situations, such as this problem will kill me, I don’t think I can make it, I am finished, I am doomed.

* Cursing people who offended you

* Speaking down on people to others because they appear to be more successful than you.

*  Speaking evil of people publicly or privately on matters you know little or nothing about Jude 1:10, 1Pet3:10

Biblical examples of people or nations whose lives were messed up as a result of how they used their tongue or how others used their tongue against them.

1. The strife of tongue made Jacob to unknowingly place a curse on his wife Rachel Gen31:32

2. The strife of tongue made Joseph give a bad report about his brothers to his father Gen 37:2 this was the root of Joseph’s trouble and 13years crisis.

3. The strife of tongue made Potiphar’s wife lie against Joseph  Gen39:16-19

4. The strife of tongue made the Israelites to write themselves off and call themselves grasshopper Num 13:33, Num14:28

5. God was angry with Jobs friends for how they used their mouths. Job 42:7-9

6. The strife of the tongue made Haman speak evil of Mordecai to the king. Esther 3:8 .

Example of people who used their tongue in positive ways

1. Paul known as the greatest missionary praised God even when he was suffering.

2. The virtuous woman in Pro31. This woman opened her mouth with wisdom and on her tongue is the law of kindness Pro31:26 Eph 4:29

3. Caleb and Joshua came with a good report when others were destroyed in the wilderness they were saved.

A Sure Pathway To Living An Overcoming Christian Life.
The Expected Christian Life and Description
Bible Text: Romans 3:23, John 3:16

INTRODUCTION

Forgiveness is more powerful than we realize because it operates within the spiritual realm. God’s forgiveness in Jesus Christ is absolute eternal and an expression of his love to his creations which penetrates our hearts and transform our soul, furthermore forgiveness operates in three different spiritual dimensions where each one enables us to know more and experience the heart of God

THREE SPIRITUAL DIMENSIONS OF FORGIVENESS

We must be forgiven

We must forgive

We need to be forgiven

We must be forgiven; We rebelled against God and need to be forgiven while the mystery of the gospel of Jesus Christ is that we are freely forgiven not by what we do as we can not earn nor deserved forgiveness so God came in the person of our Lord Jesus to live a perfect life and earns forgiveness for all through his sacrifice for the atonement of our sins Romans 5:8-9 Eph 2; 4-10, 1:7

We must forgive: Matt 5:23-24 Eph 4:32 Mk 11:25 It is importantfor those that were forgiven to also forgives which seems logical however this is not the case with many because our flesh responds with strong emotions that demand vengeance and retributions for what was done to us. But God is straight forward on forgiving others by all as unforgiveness has many undesirable consequences that stifle our internal peace, joy, happiness and spiritual growth Matt 18:21-35.

Forgiveness free us from bitterness as man revenge is not God’s justice forgiveness set us free, help us move forward brings healing gives peace of mind and it is our life teacher. Those that receive God’s grace and forgiveness but harboring unforgiveness will create conflict within their heart and soul that will be very unpleasant and a disobedience to God’s word Mk 11:25-26 Eph 4;3032 Lk 6:37 Further consequence of unforgiveness is continued aggravations of internal scars and a restricting filter between us and God

We need to be forgiven; for us that has entered into the light of Christ by his salvation will often looks back and be remorseful and guilty of some of our past deed which will need restitutions in an appropriate ways i.e

Honest assessment and acknowledgement of our misdeeds

Pray and confess the misdeed to God

Express sincere regrets and request for a possible means of resolution

If it involves financial or physical items make effort to restitute

Note no need to explain rationale behinds those acts as it is not about you but the offended and their recovery

CONCLUSION
Forgiveness is a powerful tool which grant us access into his presence and more than what we ever imagine but note its also a choice and most essential to our walk of faith and well-being but must proceed from a sincere heart and bolstered by the Holy spirit will breaks the chain that binds and melt away inappropriate thought undesirable emotions and harmful physical responses.

A Sure Pathway To Living An Overcoming Christian Life.
The Expected Christian Life and Description
Bible Text: Genesis 12:1-3 | MEMORY VERSE: 2Corintians 9:8

INTRODUCTION:

God blesses believers for certain reasons. God knows that for his children to become blessings to their generation, they need to be blessed because God is a careful planner.so, it is important for us to know the reasons for our blessings to avoid abusing it. In fact it is never  God’s  intention for his blessings to end with us, Rather , He wants it to flow through us to others.

  1. REASONS FOR GOD’S BLESSINGS:

1.You are blessed to glorify God , meaning you are blessed for God’s pleasure .Rev 4:11

2. You are blessed for kingdom advancement .Zech 1:17, Ps 122:9,Ps 132:1-5

3. You are blessed to bless others. Gen 12:2-3, Gen 14:14, James 1:27,Gal 6:10

4. You are blessed so that you can serve God in satisfaction without distraction .Mark12:28-30, Prov30:8-9

5. You are blessed so that you can have resources to fulfil your purpose on earth. Zech 1:7

B. HOW TO BE A BLESSING:

Many believers are stuck in a state of being blessed and never moved to the state of being a blessing. God wants his blessings to flow through you to your generation and for the expansion of his kingdom on earth.

To be a blessing .The following things should be done.

1. Know that you and what you have are gifts to your generation. you are sent to your generation with what you have .James 1:17,Gen 12:2

2.  Be intentional about helping others.Acts20:35

3. Seek God’s kingdom and its advancement. Matt6:33

4. Love God and people sincerely.1Tim4:12,Eph4:2

5. Serve others like Jesus Christ did.Matt20:28,Phill2:4

CONCLUSION

In 2Corinthians 12:15: Apostle paul said that he was ready to spend and to be spent for the gospel. The question we must ask ourselves is how are we using the resources God gave us to win souls and to ensure they are established in the church. Remember the rich young fool. Luke 12:16-21

WORK – A CREATION OF THE GOD – TWO https://tayoabiodun.org/work-a-creation-of-the-god-two/ https://tayoabiodun.org/work-a-creation-of-the-god-two/#respond Thu, 26 Jun 2025 11:57:07 +0000 https://tayoabiodun.org/?p=8244

A Sure Pathway To Living An Overcoming Christian Life.
The Expected Christian Life and Description
Bible Text: Genesis 1:1-8; Genesis 2:15; Genesis 2:19-20

INTRODUCTION

Summary of Part One

  1. What Is Work? – Genesis 2:15-16a; Gen 4: 17-19

Work is not punishment as some think. It is not after the fall of man creation but before the fall of man creation. Definitely the fall corrupted work, making it labour, in sweat and in hardness. However, work originally is created as a pleasure, part of creation, an express of humanity and godliness of man. It is in the being or DNA of man and a way of relating to God himself.

  • Objective, Focus and Purpose of The Study – Proverbs 6:6-11; Matthew 6:10

The focus and aim of this Bible Study started in the part one and now this part two is to gain God’s perspective on, about and for work as designed by the Lord for man. It is also focussed on gaining the biblical, the correct and fruitfulness perspective on God’s plan for Christians’ working lives and learn how to incorporate work and vocation into worship of the Lord.

As believers we need to know and live on what the Bible has to say about our work. Our faith in Christ Jesus need to lead us to what the gospel says about work. The Gospel should therefore Mould, reframe and change, our understanding of work, the way we work and sometimes the work that we do. It is also another aim of this study to help us as believers see the ways our work connects to God’s work or disconnects from God’s work!

  • Time and Life Spent To Work – Eccl 3:1-10;

To even think that our work has nothing to do with the Lord is very wrong. It is so wrong and fundamentally wrong to say the least. Of the 24 hours in a day man spends over half of it at work, about work and around work. Time is life, relationship and life. It also relationship and preparation for what to do after retirement. Our God is the one who our times and lives and in His hands. It has taken so much of you, as you prepare for work early in life, work and prepare for retirement life as you work. So work is really our lives and our living.

  • Our Destinies Are Tied To Our Work

Joseph – His Work – His Destiny – Gen 39-41 – David – His Work – His Destiny – 1 Sam 16:11; 14-18;

Apostle Paul – His Work – His Destiny – 2 Cor 6:4-10 – Abraham -His Work – His Destiny – Gen 12-24

Isaac – His Work – His Destiny – Gen 26:1-25 – Jacob -His Work – His Destiny – Gen 30-32

Peter – His Work – His Destiny – Acts 5:1-16

Therefore:- We cannot separate God from work; We cannot separate faith from work; We cannot separate relationships from work; We cannot separate holiness from work; We cannot separate the Word of God from work; We cannot separate eternity now and tomorrow from work

Therefore, in essence we are saying that work has all and everything to do with the Lord, our faith, relationships, holiness, the Word of avid and eternity now and tomorrow and for each.

  • Your Work and Your Faith – James 2:14; Revelation 2:13

Did you ever wonder what your work has to do with your faith? The short answer is everything.

Show me your works without faith –

We must therefore integrate our faith and work on a daily basis. It is also an excellent reminder that God hasn’t called the world to go to church, but has called the Church to go to the world.

The Christian workers must relate their work to God and thereby make their work holy and meaningful. You cannot work outside of God as a Christian. Your work cannot be separated from God and faith. Your work must be carried out only in holiness and righteousness, completely in the fear of the Lord.

  1. The Hall of faith in Hebrews 11 is the Hall of Work – Hebrews 11:8-13
  2. Genesis 1-11 and Work – Defining Truths

Genesis tells the story of God’s work of creation, the first work of all and the prototype for all work that follows.

In God’s image, we work in creation, on creation, with creation and—if we work as God’s intends-for creation.

In Genesis we see God at work, and we learn how God intends us to work.

We both obey and disobey God in our work, and we discover that God is at work in both our obedience and disobedience.

The creation is forever dependent on God-“In him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28) – yet it remains distinct. This gives our work a beauty and value above the value man can give to it. Our work has its source in God, yet it also has its own weight and dignity. Remember the saying, there is dignity in labour?

  • God Works Relationally (Genesis 1:26a)

Work makes man relate with others. Before the creation of man, God speaks in the plural, “Let us make humankind in our image” Gen. 1:26, referring to the Trinity. John 1: 1-4

People are Created in God’s Image – Genesis 1:26, 27; 5:1

When God created humankind, he made them in the likeness of God. All creation displays God’s design, power, and goodness, but only human beings are said to be made in God’s image.

God is the creator of works in both the material and spiritual worlds. We have the ability to do the same as believers which should make our work different. Hebrews 11:3; Psalms 42:7 – His creation must work as well for the continuation and sustainable of creation.

CONCLUSION

We therefore work for God. We work in God. We work towards God and the purpose of God. Work is more and bigger than a means of livelihood but a continuation of the creation in God and through God by our work. Work is a creative impact driven life. Work is not about what you get from work, but what work makes you add to life and others. So start working with this understanding from where you are , and see what the Lord will do with work in the will, way and creative nature of God.

A Sure Pathway To Living An Overcoming Christian Life.
The Expected Christian Life and Description
Bible Text: Acts 5:29, 1 Peter 1:14, 1 John 5:3, Isaiah 1:19, Luke 6:46, Exo 23:22, Psalm 119:30, John 14:31, Luke 11:28, 1 Sam 15:22.

INTRODUCTION

Obedience first and foremost is an important virtue in Christian calling, everything else follows after this solemn act. If you have faith in God and believe Christ is the truth and the only way then obey Him – John 14:6

WHAT IS OBEDIENCE

Dictionary meaning/definition is – the act or instance of obeying. The quality or state of being obedient. It could also be “being submissive to the restraint or command of authority willingly”.

Therefore, the meaning of Christian obedience is the act of submitting (obeying) to the commands (laws) of God, the highest authority, creator, and Father of mankind.

WHY SHOULD WE OBEY GOD?

God is the Creator and Lord of the universe, so we should obey him. We should hear God’s voice, accept his authority and do what he says voluntarily  because only voluntary obedience is acceptable to God – Exo 15:26, Deu 4:35-40

WHAT DOES OUR OBEDIENCE TO GOD SHOWS?

If we obey God it bring the proof of:

i) Our true love for God – John 21:15

ii) Our true discipleship – Matt 9:37-38

iii) Our true fruit of the Spirit – Gal 5:22-23

iv) Our true born again character

v) Our true prayer toward God – Luke 11:2-4

vi) Our true rest on earth.

vii) Our true happiness – John 13:17, Psalms 40:8

viii) Our true knowledge in Christ – John 7:17

ix) Our true Sacrifice – 1Sam 15:22; Jer 7:21-23

WHAT ARE THE SET RULES OF OBEDIENCE IN CHRISTIAN LIFE

Christians have a responsibility to submit to the various kinds of authority that God has established in human society.

  1. In the family, children are to obey their parents – Eph 6:1; Col 3:20).
  2. In the church, Christians are to obey their leaders – Phi 2:12; 1Thess 5:12; Heb 13:7a.
  3. In our work place, employees are to obey their employers – Eph 6:5; Col 3:22.
  4. In our community or nation, we are to obey the laws of that community or nation – Rom 13:1; 1Pet 2:13-14.

WHY SHOULD WE CULTIVATE THE HABIT OF OBEYING GOD

If we develop the habit of obeying God, they will become true servants of righteousness and therefore true servants of God.

By contrast, if they develop the habit of obeying the sinful human nature, they will become servants of sin and therefore useless to God – Rom 6:12-16.

CONCLUSION

Our natural instinct is to do what we feel and think is right (just like the Israelites in the book of Judges).
But we are not called to obey lies, human bias, or any other thing different from the word of God.

OVERCOMING THE FEAR OF PERSONAL EVANGELISM https://tayoabiodun.org/overcoming-the-fear-of-personal-evangelism/ https://tayoabiodun.org/overcoming-the-fear-of-personal-evangelism/#respond Thu, 19 Jun 2025 14:36:26 +0000 https://tayoabiodun.org/?p=8235

A Sure Pathway To Living An Overcoming Christian Life.
The Expected Christian Life and Description
Bible Text: Isa. 51:12,13, 1 Jn. 4:18

INTRODUCTION

In our previous studies, we have seen that a major source of motivation – the power to propel you into evangelism is love or compassion. Many Christians profess they love God and love their neighbour, yet they are still passive towards evangelism; fear tends to demobilize them. For some people, evangelism comes easy. For others, though, just talking about evangelism makes their palms sweat and their stomachs turn.

As Christians, we want to evangelize. We know we should evangelize. We are commanded to evangelize. But many of us are afraid. What do we do?

FACTS FOR CONSIDERATION

To overcome the fear of evangelism, we must first consider three facts about that fear:

1. Fear to Speak for God is Common.

a. Moses struggled with fear. Exo. 3:10 – 4:10

He made four excuses for why he could not speak to Pharaoh as God told him to.

i. Who am I? Exo. 3:11

ii. What shall I say? Exo. 3:13

iii. They will not believe me. Exo. 4:1

iv. I am not eloquent. Ex 4:10

b. Timothy was full of fears. 2 Tim. 1:7

c. Even Paul, the great evangelist, was often afraid. Acts 18:9,10

2. Don’t let one – not even many rejections paralyze you. Many seasoned evangelists including Apostle Paul suffered many. Acts 18:6.

a. Your responsibility is not to convert them – that is the work of the Holy Spirit. So, you have not failed! Jn. 16:8

b. Their blood is not on you. Acts 18:6, Ezk. 33:7-9

You are responsible for sharing the gospel. You are not responsible for how people respond.

If you faithfully proclaim the Gospel, your hands are clean; you are innocent.

c. The Word of God is a seed – you have planted it.1 Pet. 1:23

3. The spirit of fear is not from God. 2 Tim. 1:7 and so must be overcome.

OVERCOMING THE FEAR

1. Prayer

Before talking to men about God, cultivate the habit of first talking to God about men.

– Pray for courage. Acts 4:29

– Pray for power. Acts 4:30-31

– Pray for God to go ahead and open their eyes and hearts. 2 Kgs. 6:15-17

– Pray for the enemies of the gospel to be silenced. Acts 13:6-12

– Pray for your sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Exo. 3:13,14, Lk. 21:13-15

2. Cultivate a pervasive sense of God’s omnipresence.

Remember his corresponding promises. Heb. 13:5, Matt. 28:20, Exo. 3:21.

If God be with you, you are covered. Rom. 8:31, Heb. 13:6

Stand firm in your faith. Isa. 7:9, 2 Cor. 5:6,7

3. Let your fear of God increase more and more. Jer. 1:17

– Meditate much on the coming Judgment Day, and your need to give account to Him.

– Ask Him to help you fear God more than you fear man. 2 Cor. 5:10,11, Isa. 51:12,13

As you grow in your love for God and love for lost souls, these will override your fear of going out to men and for God. 1 Jn. 4:18

4.Set the reward before you. Heb. 12.2

– Even if they insult you, a blessing is still promised to you. 1 Pet. 4:14

– Even if the worst happens and they persecute you, your reward is sure and great. Matt. 5:11,12

5.Prayerfully choose a seasoned soul winner to team with until you have gained courage and tact. Mk. 6:7-13, Lk. 10:1, Acts 13:2-4

CONCLUSION

You are called to go and do; contrary to popular evangelical thinking, we are not totally responsible for the results. If you have been witnessing for years and have seen only a few converts and thousands of rejections, well, praise God. Maybe you need to consider your tactics, but the willingness and implementation to obey are seen as success in God’s eyes.

The main measure of your performance is your obedience, not just in number of converts

The real failure is when we do not do this! The real beginning of success is when you rise in obedience henceforth and you can say “I have heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me. I SHALL GO FOR YOU, I SHALL NO LONGER KEEP SILENT

Bible Text: GENESIS 12:1-4; GENESIS 26:13; 2 SAMUEL 5:12; ISAIAH 9:7; LUKE 1:33

INTRODUCTION

It is our year of onward divine progress. It is the will and plan of God that his children make not just ordinary but extraordinary progress. Our progress in this world is expected to be continuous, lasting and take us to see the Lord in glory. That is why we are created and saved to move from one level of glory to another always and unstop. 1 Cor 3:18; 2 Peter 1:17; Deut 28:13

Educationally promotion is the outcome of every successful examination and self-examination. In the same pattern in all spheres of life that requires onward progress there are known and unknown examination for every level of promotion and progress that we require. These examinations and self-examinations can be spiritual, a physical, a combination of both or more than just spiritual and physical. Like emotional, material, managerial, discipline and more.

A Sure Pathway To Living An Overcoming Christian Life.
The Expected Christian Life and Description
Bible Text: JH 16:13, ROM 5:5, ROM 8:16.

INTRODUCTION

Jesus introduced the Holy Spirit to His disciples with these words: “When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak whatever He hears. He will also declare to you what is to come” John 16:13

The work of the Holy Spirit is the means by which all that Christ accomplished comes to benefit the elect. The Holy Spirit does (at least) seven things in and for our salvation.

1. The Holy Spirit Convicts.

The word convict is used in John 3:20 with the sense of bringing sins to light: “For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light.

The Holy Spirit acts like a giant searchlight, exposing the world’s wickedness, calling people to repentance, and convicting the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8–11).

2. The Holy Spirit converts.

As Jesus famously told Nicodemus, “Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God” (John 3:5).

Titus 3:5 calls this work “the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.”

There is no Christian life without the converting work of the Spirit. He enables us to understand and spiritually discern the things of God (1 Cor. 2:12–14).

He grants us repentance that leads to life (Acts 11:18). He pours God’s love into our hearts so we can be assured that in Christ God is for us and not against us (Rom. 5:5).

The Holy Spirit enables us to believe in the promises of God (John 1:12–13; 3:36; 6:63–65).

3. The Holy Spirit Applies The Benefits.

The Holy Spirit is the bond by which Christ effectually unites us to himself – Romans 8:9–11.

When we have the Spirit, we have Christ. And when we have Christ, we have the Spirit. The Holy Spirit applies to the believer the benefits won by Christ, because the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ.

4. The Holy Spirit glorifies.

“He will glorify me,” Jesus told the disciples, “he will take what is mine and declare it to you” (John 16:14).

The Holy Spirit is a serving Spirit. He speaks only what he hears (John 16:13).

He declares what he is given (John 16:14b).

His mission is to glorify another (John 16:14a).

We cannot worship Christ without the work of the Spirit. And the Spirit does not want to be magnified except insofar as he points to Christ.

The work of the Holy Spirit is to bring glory to Christ by taking what is his—his teaching, the truth about his death and resurrection—and making it known.

5. The Holy Spirit sanctifies.

The Spirit gives the believer a new position in Christ—set apart in Christ and sprinkled with his blood—and a new power in Christ (Eph. 3:16).

The Spirit works in us “for obedience to Jesus Christ” (1 Pet. 1:2).

Peter elsewhere says that through God’s precious and very great promises we may “become partakers of the divine nature” (2 Pet. 1:4).

The point is that we can share in the qualities that are characteristic of God himself.

6. The Holy Spirit Equips.

By the work of the Spirit, believers are given gifts for ministry. Sometimes called “service” or “activities,” the purpose of these gifts is to build up the church. The manifestation of the Spirit is for the common good and the edification of the church -1 Cor 12:7, 1 Cor 14:12, 26.

7. The Holy Spirit promises.

Ephesians 1:13–14 states that in Christ we “were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it.”

All three elements are probably in view here. The seal of the Spirit authenticates us as true believers, secures our eternal safety, and marks us out as belonging to God.

CONCLUSION

The Spirit is our guarantee (2 Cor. 5:5), like an engagement ring prior to the wedding, or like a down payment on a house before the final move-in date (Eph. 4:30).

The sealing is, first of all, a declarative fact, true of every Christian.

The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God” (Rom. 8:16, Rom 5:5

Where will you and I be if not for the resurrection of the Lord Jesus

We cannot claim to love Jesus outside living in the benefits of his resurrection

Embrace it – Believe it – Rejoice in it and Celebrate it

Live only in its power and benefits

Dwell with the shepherd, for that his the summary of the benefits of his resurrection to us. Ps 23:1
