Summary of Part One and Introduction
We all know the need for light and the value of light. When there is general electricity supply it is cheap and serves more use and purpose. Now compared with when you have to generate your own electricity you know the cost. The cost of no light and no electricity can only just be imagined.
1. Who You Are Is The Light – Gen 1:26-27 and Gen 1:28
The call and purpose of God for and on every believer is that we are light. We are light spirit, soul and body. Just as light can be nothing, we must be just light. It is when we are light that others things can follow and flow. The creation is based on light apart from God, who is light.
Remember that man is made in the image and in the likeness of God. One of the parts of the likeness of God is the light. Yes, Jesus is the Light but he has given us the capacity to be light for Him, through Him and for His glory. In this do we please God, full his will and purpose thereby living out the way He originally created us – in His image and likeness, having dominion. Anything less than the light is not the call nor purpose of God for you.
2. What Produces Light and Make Light – Prov 4:18; John 1:5;
This brings us back to our light generation in any and all forms. In hydro form, in gas, in the sun, in the generator, in charcoal, stove and in wood. All forms determine the capacity and the cleanliness of the light that can be generated.
It is Jesus in me, the word of God and the Holy Spirit that make us this light and give us the capacity to generate light, as well as remain light. When am become born again it starts. I need the Holy Spirit to be light and generate light. The Word of God in me generates light.
When I obey the word, I am light and generating light. When I love, I am light and generating light. When fellowship, I am light and generating light. When I live holy, I am light and generating light. Are you combustible? Your life is a combustible life and living. What cannot catch fire must not be seen or retained in you.
3. Light and Darkness – Jh 1:5; 2 Cor 6:14; 1 Jh 2:8;
Imagine what a little light can do in darkness compared to a great and greater light and then compared to many lights. There is war between light and darkness. Do not be ignorant of it. That is why the enemy does not want us to understand it and hunger to be light and shine as light.
So long there is no light, darkness will take over and prevail. The believer is engaged in this war. No wonder Jesus calls for our light so so shine, because the darkness is very thick.
4. Just A Thought To Consider – Gen 1:1-4; Jh 1:1-5; – Let us consider these queries
Would God had created the world without first making light? Would other things have been possible in creation without first making light? Did other things created need light or not? As it is in the physical that life is horrible without light, is it not so in the spiritual?
5. The Value and Purpose of The Christian As The Light of The World – Matt 5:5-16; Jh 3:19; Phil 2:15; Eph 5:8
You are light in this dark world. You are light in this world’s darkness. Human nature is the same: it is in deep, dense darkness. The average man boasts about his darkness, and the darker he seems to admit himself to be, the greater he is in the eyes of men, the wiser he is! Many have no light of Christ in them.
Darkness is one thing, but intentional darkness is quite another. It is one thing to be subject to darkness, it is another thing to choose to shelter underneath it. Light reveals things as they really are. Light also promotes life. Light is persistent. Light awakens.
6. Let Your Light So Shine – 1 Thess 1:6 – As Commanded By The Lord Means:
What Are The Implications For Us, as Believers. We are to be a people set upon a hill, because we have believed in Messiah. We have been elevated, they are one with Him, justified by His righteousness, possessed by His Spirit.
Jesus is therefore saying: ‘I have forbidden that you hide your light!’. He is saying your light must be visible. Our light must be effective. We are to be a guide to the world.
CONCLUSION:
Light is only light when it is beneficial to others. Your light must reflect on others, they must rejoice in your light and your light ought to be a great blessing to them.
